Moi - Today I have a conversation

MOi – TODAY I HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH MY TRUE SELF

This is a sculpture  that I created in clay and fired in a gas kiln at cone 10 reduction. This was not made with a plaster mask of my face meaning that I did not use a mold to get a print of my face.   This was created by carving with tools through clay using also a mirror to see my face measuring the different parts of it to be more accurate…. while carving and sculpting the forms. It took over a month to carve this work.  Patience, time consuming and challenging experience!  Then eventually… the clay had to dry very slowly all covered in plastic sheets for about 6-7 weeks before rolling this sculpture on a wood platform with wheels to be fired in a huge gas kiln. After 2 days of firing and cooling….I saw the final piece with great anticipation and curiosity as I never knew if it would fall apart and break in pieces. I was very happy with the result.
